What You Can Learn From Flea Market And Apply It To Your Online Business
This week I went to a flea market. Not as a buyer, but as a seller. I have so many stuff that I don’t use anymore lying around my home. It is time to get rid them away.
This is my first time selling at flea market and I made 14000 yen profit selling stuff that I would happily throw away. Not bad…
Honestly, if you compare the profit with the time spent, this activity is not worth the time. However, through this experience, you can learn so much about selling. And this is priceless.
Here are some things that I learned today:
1. You must be proactive when selling any products.
There are many sellers at the flea market, but many of them are not doing proactive selling. They just sit there in their booth and do nothing. On the contrary, I was doing the opposite.
I saluted every person that took a glance at my booth and asking them politely to look around my booth. And the result was amazing. I got many people looking around my booth. Even if some people didn’t bought anything from my booth, surely the crowd they made bring more crowd into my booth. It’s just like a viral marketing in action.
2. There are at least three types of customers.
I have identified three types of customers:
- Those who already know what they want.
- Those who don’t have yet any want on a particular product, but are willing to buy something interesting.
- Those who just want to find something at discounted price (bargain hunter). Sometimes they don’t even think if they’re going to use.
Understanding the minds of each category people can help you how to promote your products to gain the most profit.
3. Never stop changing how you present your products.
Another point I learned is that changing the layout of my booth can help boost sells. Or at least it increasing the number of eyes seeing your products.
The visibility of your product is very important. Yet, the relevancy between products place next to each other is almost as important.
If you are selling various products on a single website, make sure that you design your website so that it will not confuse your visitors. Place relevant elements next to each other as close as possible.
Don’t let your visitor go astray.
