Monday Starter: Don’t Be A Perfectionist
Many people have this ‘necessity’ to get everything perfect from the very beginning. This ‘habits’ sometimes can get things stop from going forward.
While I don’t against perfection, I am against delaying things because you want to get it perfect from the very beginning. You should realize that time is one of your resources in business (and life). The more you delay things, the more resources you are wasting.
Take a break to refresh your thought on the old sweet Murphy’s Law: anything that can break, will break. Nothing is perfect.
So, what’s the main point I want to convey in this post?
If you have a plan to launch a product or service. Set a deadline and set a minimum requirement of ‘readiness’ for your project. Work on your project to the deadline.
When the deadline comes, review your project if it has met the minimum requirement. If not, is the flaw fatal for your business? If not, launch it and fix it later. After it is launched you can then make continuous improvement on your project.
For example, if you want to sell an ebook, your minimum requirement would be a sales letter, payment processor and of course the ebook itself. Perfect grammar and spelling, graphics, audio message, download protection script, split tester, etc are not ‘must have’ requirements.
You can add all those ‘perks’ later. Of course it is better to have them in place before launching. However, if you just starting out set your minimum requirement bar as low as possible. Otherwise, you will be delaying launching your product or service.
The more experiences you have, the more you will be able to determine what additional works (increase your profit) and what doesn’t. On your next project, you can then include what works into your ‘original standard’ minimum requirement.
Repeating this would result in a gradual and firm, step-by-step improvement of your project. Taking baby steps is easier than doing a giant leap. Start taking your baby steps today!
Have a Breakthough!
